5 Fandom Friday
This week’s 5 Fandom Friday, hosted by The Nerdy Girlie and SuperSpaceChick is all about Thanksgiving!
Characters I Would Invite To My Thanksgiving Feast!
Seriously, there are SO many choices for this!! Ahhh!! So many characters I’d love to meet in real life. I can’t pick JUST five, so some of them are groups.
1. The Doctor. Ideally the tenth Doctor, but really any would do. I just adore the Doctor and I can only imagine the stories he’d have to share, and how he would interact with everyone else.
2. The Sailor Scouts. I couldn’t pick just one! I just think they’d be a riot all together, and I have always wanted to hang out with the Sailor Scouts. Plus, I would totally recruit Makoto (Sailor Jupiter!) to help me with the cooking! XD
3. Dean Winchester. Dean is just hilarious. I very much appreciate his sense of humor. And I would love to see how he and the Doctor get on. I feel hilarity would ensue in some form. Plus, he would appreciate all the pies and baked goods I’d make, which is never a bad thing.
4. Merry and Pippin. You can’t have one without the other! Well you can, but then it’s heartbreaking and makes me cry (I’m looking at you Return of the King….). Anywho, not only would the two of them love to sit down to a massive meal, I just love them. Plus they could lead us all in fabulous songs.
5. Fred and George Weasley. Yes, I realize Fred died in Deathly Hallows but it’s my fantasy dinner so too bad! 😀 Seriously, the two of them would just complete this mix. I’m picturing massive amounts of pranks, them joining in song with Merry and Pippin, and doing all sorts of magic to Dean. It’d be a riot.
Despite being an introvert, when it comes to the holidays I love a loud, boisterous get together full of laughter! That’s just how my family has always done it – we all talk across the table, and laugh a LOT. We just love to have a good time, and that’s the vibe I’d want at my Thanksgiving feast!
Links To The Past
- Kristin of My Life As A Teacup shared this absolutely fabulous cover of ‘All About That Bass’ and I can’t get enough of it. The whole channel has some really interesting covers (I absolutely love hearing new takes on songs). The doo-wop cover of Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem’ is strange, but in a good way haha!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyTTX6Wlf1Y - Mariko of Gamerwife has started the #puttogetherproject on Instagram this month. It aims to raise awareness for mental health issues by taking pride in your appearance, and making an effort every day! This hits quite close to home for me lately, so definitely check out her post for the full scoop, and play along! I’m not committing to every day, but I definitely plan on making a donation to an organization at the end of the month as it is such a worthy cause.
- The Geeky Seamstress had a great post on sewing with Spandex for the first time. I’ve always been intimidated to try anything other than standard cotton and knits, and this was a great kickoff point for anyone looking to try it out!
- I love all things from Mystic Eye Creations (I have a custom acrylic pen and pencil, both of which I use on a daily basis, and I have a wooden pen too!) but lately these styluses have completely snagged my attention. Gorgeous, and useful. Christmas is coming and I definitely recommend checking out their product lines – they offer so many different things, and they are gorgeous, high quality, one of a kind pieces! Shop indie!
- AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is being released for the 3DS!!! I am SO EXCITED. I feel this game is highly underrated – it has an amazing story and is what I consider the most challenging Zelda game I’ve played. I can’t wait to get it, and I will absolutely be getting the big special edition box with all the swag. Drooooool.
- Artist Austin Light is doing amazing things with illustration and movie titles. Definitely check it out; it’s hilarious.
- Jess of Bookworms In Dresses shared this fantastic cat furniture article. I want them all!! If I were rich and an interior designer, I would incorporate so many of these into my house. My favorites being the Cat Burger and the cat friendly bookshelf (which are actually possibilities for real life!).
- Erin of Sugar Crumbs shared nine Thanksgiving side dish recipes and they had me drooling. Espeically the Crispy Potato Roast (#4) and The Slow Cooker Cream Corn (#7). Om nom nom.
No fanart this week. I think I’m going to expand and have it include ANY video game art, not just Zelda. Which means I have lots of possibilities to choose from! They’ll be something next week for sure!
Cyber Monday Shopping
Black Friday is not for me. I am not a fan of large crowds ever, let alone when they are large crowds made up of tired, grouchy, pushy people. (Okay, I’m sure they’re not ALL that way. . .but in my head, they are!) So Black Friday has never had much appeal for me. Therefore I’m hoping to participate in Cyber Monday – most notably the Storenvy Cyber Monday Flash sale hosted by Lu & Ed! There are FIFTY shops participating – you get 30% off ANYTHING in those stores. WHAT?! I seriously don’t even know where to begin. . .or how to break it to my hubs that I’m doing more Christmas shopping – mostly for myself haha! But seriously, supporting small handmade shops is a fabulous thing to do, and there is some seriously awesome stuff on sale. I may even buy things to save for people’s birthdays and such just because I can!
Here are a few shops/items I’ve got my eye on (click the image for a direct link to the product!):
I’m loving both these pairs of earrings from Enchanted . They’d make a great gift for my mum (and who am I kidding, for myself!)
This slouch and bobble hat from Tiger Knitty is calling my name. I really need want a new winter hat!
I honestly couldn’t pick just ONE thing from Mohu’s shop to buy, so I think I’d go for her Amigurumi Plush Mystery Bag! Then I’m guaranteed something adorable, without having to make a decision about what to get.
Playa Blu’s all natural whipped body butter definitely needs to be on my nightstand.
I am desperately wanting yet another pen from Mystic Eye Creations . I have both a pen and pencil already (I use their pencil for ALL my drawings!) but I’d like to get a new acrylic pen for journaling.
This card set from Scrawny Girl is just wonderful! Excellent illustrations – I might not even mail them since they’re so darn cute!
And that’s just a tip of the iceberg. . .seriously how can you go wrong?? If you’d like the full scoop on all the shops, click here ! This will really make up for missing out on October for the 1AM Promise.
Now I’m off to brainstorm ideas on how to tell the hubs about my impending dent to the bank account. . .
Holidays Are In The Air
My house is ready for Christmas. Despite the fact that Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet. And although my cat may be loving the Christmas tree (see above) it does feel odd to have my tree and decorations up already, but it is necessary. Allow my to elaborate.
Thanksgiving for me marks the time where my life begins to feel like I’m on that slow, adrenaline-building climb towards the top of a roller coaster. My hubby’s birthday is the December 11th, my daughter’s is a week later on the 18th, and what’s a week after that? Christmas. Two parties and Christmas to plan for, all a week apart. I try and get all the planning for them DONE by early November, so by the time December actually arrives, I just hang on for the ride! Plus, that way I can focus on keeping my house spotless for three weeks straight since we have a constant flux of people in and out for parties and such. Needless to say, by the time January comes, the concept of free time is so foreign that I tend to spend week one of the new year vegging out on my couch and binge-watching Netflix shows.
Placing the first ornaments on the tree.
But back to my original point – Christmas decorations. Normally we cut our tree down and set up our decor the weekend after Thanksgiving, but my husband has mandatory overtime this year for that weekend, so those plans were done for. And as stated above, we have zero free weekends before Christmas, so it was now or never! And once the tree was in the house I couldn’t just leave it all naked and blank for a week so we decorated it. And since my decoration boxes were then already out. . .you get the idea.

Posing nicely for mommy, then taking in the wonder of the tree lights in the dark!
With everything in my house all cozy and in the Christmas spirit, I am definitely ready for the holidays! However, I feel more than slightly ridiculous starting to wrap presents before Thanksgiving is here, so I’ve resisted. (But I can start tomorrow night right? RIGHT?!)
I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving, and stuff yourself silly with delicious foods. I know I will be doing just that!
