5 Fandom Friday

This week’s 5 Fandom Friday, hosted by The Nerdy Girlie and SuperSpaceChick is all about Thanksgiving!

Characters I Would Invite To My Thanksgiving Feast!

Seriously, there are SO many choices for this!! Ahhh!! So many characters I’d love to meet in real life. I can’t pick JUST five, so some of them are groups.

1. The Doctor. Ideally the tenth Doctor, but really any would do. I just adore the Doctor and I can only imagine the stories he’d have to share, and how he would interact with everyone else.

2. The Sailor Scouts. I couldn’t pick just one! I just think they’d be a riot all together, and I have always wanted to hang out with the Sailor Scouts. Plus, I would totally recruit Makoto (Sailor Jupiter!) to help me with the cooking! XD

3. Dean Winchester. Dean is just hilarious. I very much appreciate his sense of humor. And I would love to see how he and the Doctor get on. I feel hilarity would ensue in some form. Plus, he would appreciate all the pies and baked goods I’d make, which is never a bad thing.

4. Merry and Pippin. You can’t have one without the other! Well you can, but then it’s heartbreaking and makes me cry (I’m looking at you Return of the King….). Anywho, not only would the two of them love to sit down to a massive meal, I just love them. Plus they could lead us all in fabulous songs.

5. Fred and George Weasley. Yes, I realize Fred died in Deathly Hallows but it’s my fantasy dinner so too bad! 😀 Seriously, the two of them would just complete this mix. I’m picturing massive amounts of pranks, them joining in song with Merry and Pippin, and doing all sorts of magic to Dean. It’d be a riot.

Despite being an introvert, when it comes to the holidays I love a loud, boisterous get together full of laughter! That’s just how my family has always done it – we all talk across the table, and laugh a LOT. We just love to have a good time, and that’s the vibe I’d want at my Thanksgiving feast!

Links to the Past

Hyrule crest

  • This fox hat is just so cute! Especially as I have a best friend who is welcoming a little boy soon. Note to self – learn to crochet!
  • I saw this tea infuser on Instagram and I think it’s just hilarious. The Tea-tanic!!

  • I hadn’t read this story in ages until Incendiarism posted it last week, and it is just as hilarious as I remember. If you click only one of these links, have it be this one!
  • My whole life I have always been freaked out by little clusters of small holes, and I just found out it has a name – Trypophobia. I feel like much less of a crazy person knowing this is an actual thing! Below is a great video about it, though if you’re like me you may need to just listen and not watch!

  • This month for the Novel Tea Book Club we are reading Etiquette and Espionage! It’s set in steampunk Victorian England, and a member of the club posted this fun steampunk name generator in the group. I am Officer Cadet Mattie Jay-Blackmoor which I so love (and is begging to be illustrated)! What’s yours?
  • And in the vein of bookclubs, Nerd in the Brain has just started up an online book club which I am excited to join! I love that she is incorporating independent authors for some of the books. This month the adult book is The Sneaker Tree (there is also a category for teen/YA readers). Definitely head over and sign up if you’d like to join in on the fun!

And your weekly dose of Zelda fanart.

Combining Zelda AND kitties?!?!  I just can’t take the cuteness! His gallery is filled with SO MUCH CUTE – click the pic to head over and check it out!

WIP Wednesday

havengullichWIP

I’m about 90% done this bookmark, which will be a Christmas gift for a friend. It’s been so much fun to paint, and I’m loving learning more about using watercolors. I haven’t decided if I’m going to paint a background color or not. The Magic card has an ochre yellow background, but I don’t really like it. So, to leave it white, or pick another color? Thoughts?

bookmarks

I sketched out two more bookmarks to paint just for fun! Sorry they’re so hard to see; I tend to sketch REALLY lightly when I’m going to be painting, so I had to fiddle with the levels in Lightroom just to see this much! On the left, a happy little dancing Groot, because who doesn’t love dancing Groot, and on the right a Moriarty bookmark. He is my absolute favorite part of Sherlock, so he definitely needed a bookmark.

commission

This is the very very beginning stages of a commission I just received over the weekend! So this is a little peek into my process – my first step is to do a really rough outline sketch to place everything in for proportion and size. Next up I’ll start revising and adding in detail, then move on to shading.

ten

I’ve had Doctor Who, especially Ten, on my mind lately, so I sketched this up to paint last night just for fun. Very small, the whole paper is 6″ x 8″, but I like painting small.

bumpinthenight

I sketched this up last night too, after my daughter woke up in the night (definitely based on her). I’m quite pleased with it as it’s 100% out of my head with no reference. I still get nervous drawing stuff that way! But I like how this turned out. It’s very rough, and I can’t decide if I want to revise it to paint, or just leave as a sketch for now. I really need to save my pennies to get a set of Copic markers as I think they would be perfect for it!

plush doctors

This project has taken up most of my crafting time this week. I’ve been working on stitching some plushes as Christmas gifts, and these Doctors are my first attempt! Ten was the the first one I ever made, and though he has some flaws I love him. My stitching is already neater for Eleven – he just needs to be stuffed, sewn shut, and have his details added! These were purchased patterns, but I’m working on making my own patterns for other characters, and animal plushes too.

I actually have a few more drawings and things started, but they are gifts for people so I’m keeping them under wraps. After Christmas they’ll be a giant art/craft dump post with them.

What are you making lately?

This Week We. . .

  • Had a sleepover with my best friend, and her daughter (who is my daughter’s best friend – we are a double trouble team!). We took the kids to Beans & Greens which is an awesome local farm/store that has lots for little ones to do – for free! We had so much fun feeding the goats, cow, and pig. The chickens weren’t out the day we went, but they often have them. In the fall there is a hay maze, and other fun things! Their store is great too – tons of fresh vegetables, and lots of yummy baked goods as well. It’s a great place.

Awesome teepee made out of leafy vines!

  • From there we went to Imagination Station, a wooden playground that is just FABULOUS. There is so much for little kids to explore there – all kinds of wood tunnels, bridges to climb, tires to play in, and of course the standard playground fare of swings, slides, and see-saws (or as my best friend’s adorable daughter calls them ‘Up-Downs’).

Isn’t it amazing! I just love this place.

  • As you can see at the top of this post, I finally got a dang bee photo! I’ve been wanting a bee-on-a-flower photo all summer, and the opportunity finally presented itself. Yay for me!
  • I finished up a commission but I can’t post it yet! It’s being delivered this weekend so I’ll post about it next week – don’t want to ruin the surprise!
  • I ordered and received my Indie Purchase Of The Month to fulfill my 1AM Promise. I got a SPECTACULAR print (see below) from Papyrusaurus. I love me some tenth Doctor! Got some gifts from there too. . .which again I can’t post in case of surprise ruining. Just a side note about the store – I was really impressed by their customer service! I had a question about a print which they responded to very quickly, and when it came time to ship them, she emailed me double checking my address as it seemed wrong – somehow the address was set up to ship to a Wal-Mart somewhere instead my home address! What?! Point being, she had the courtesy to check and fix it which I really appreciated!!

I mean seriously, does it get any better?

And although I know it’s supposed to be Fun Fact Friday, yet again I have nothing prepared. I swear Friday comes twice as fast as usual sometimes. . .so I think I’m gonna to say Fun Fact Friday’s will be an occasional thing instead of EVERY Friday. At least for now! Happy weekend everyone!
